Children

It has always been part of God’s plan to have kids in the church. Jesus was dedicated in the temple as a young child and was comfortable enough there. He spent two days in the temple during a trip as a child. It’s our goal that this church be just as inviting. We want to help in the spiritual development of our children and encourage you to help out as well. We are a Safe Sanctuaries church meaning all staff and volunteers that work with youth are asked to take training and pass background checks. We are always looking for volunteers in our children’s programs. If you would like to help out in some way, please feel free to call Diann Martin at the church office, 237-3158 or email her at diannm@kearneyfirstumc.org.

Nursery

Our nursery is available during all three services on Sunday mornings and can be arranged for other church functions as needed. It is located just off the main lobby near the Sanctuary.

The nursery is designed for newborns until kids start school. There are Sunday school classes for children starting at 2 but children are still welcome in the nursery until they start school. School-age children are encouraged to attend Sunday school, worship or both as parents see fit.

Parents are given pagers so if there is an emergency or need of assistance from any parent, they are just a page away. The nursery is staffed by trained, paid staff members.

Kingdom Kids

Elementary Kingdom Kids

Kingdom Kids is a program designed for children in K–3rd grade.  We will meet on Wednesday evenings for Come As You Are Worship in the sanctuary at 6:30pm and then go to the gym to break into our groups from 7:00-8:00 pm during the school year.  The kids will enjoy games & Bible story time in the gym,  snacks in the Open Circle room, and crafts in the Crusader’s room.  If you have been thinking of a way to help out in the children’s programs, we can always use more help in the snack and craft rooms.

Preschool Kingdom Kids

This program is for four-year-olds to five-year-olds.  You are invited to your own Kingdom Kids.  We will meet from 7:00 – 7:30 p.m. in room 133 to learn Bible stories, sing songs, make crafts, and have snacks!

Grapple

Grapple is our Wednesday evening program for the 4th and 5th grade children.  It offers a time for the kids to dig into the Bible to answer questions they have about God and life.  The smallgroup setting is designed to get preteens interacting and discussing their questions and their faith.  The kids will all have access to the MyGrapple.com social network that is safe, secure and exclusively for this class.  This class is led by Jen Gibbs, Joe Solomon and Eric Zimbelman.  Come and join us at Come as You Are Worship at 6:30 in the sanctuary.  Grapple will be from 7:00-8:15 pm and meets in the friendship and seekers rooms.
